Treating More Than The Disease
The Oncology Center has maintained a fundamental commitment to provide the highest quality healthcare in an environment where the patient is our first and only focus. By combining highly skilled professionals, clinical services and a warm, personal touch, the staff, nurses, and physicians, at The Oncology Center at St. Joseph Hospital deliver more than routine cancer care.
At The Oncology Center, we understand that cancer is more than a disease. Cancer has a profound impact on the lives of our patients. At The Oncology Center, we focus on treating the mind and spirit as well as the body. Our full person care includes spiritual, psychosocial, nutritional and complementary therapies.
Infusion Suite
The newly expanded Infusion Suite, located adjacent to Specialty Care Associates, the offices of John Posner, MD and Mary Voltz, MD, is staffed by certified oncology nurses with experience in cancer care. The Infusion Suite now has a pharmacist onsite to minimize the wait for drugs to be delivered from the main hospital. Lounge chairs, televisions, books, snacks and refreshments provide comfort for infusion patients while receiving treatments. A complete resource room provides the latest online and published information for cancer patients and their family members. The resource room is supported by Against All Odds, a cancer advocacy group working with St. Joseph Hospital.
Spiritual Care
The Oncology Center at St. Joseph Hospital has a dedicated chaplain who makes frequent visits to the Oncology Unit and Infusion Suite. The chaplain helps patients by listening, praying, or just providing companionship. A chaplain is also on call 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Patients can also request appointments with social workers to facilitate discharge planning and care after discharge.
Nutrition
While patients are receiving treatment for cancer, many nutritional needs go unmet. A registered dietitian is available for consultations and guidance on proper nutrition during treatment and recovery. Snacks and refreshments for patients in the Infusion Suite are also approved by the dietitian.
Nashua Regional Cancer Center
Oncology patients also have access to the Nashua Regional Cancer Center (NRCC), a state-of-the-art radiation therapy center serving southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. A non-profit organization, the Center was established in 1992 to improve local access to comprehensive cancer care. The Nashua Regional Cancer Center is the only accredited radiation center in southern New Hampshire licensed by the State of New Hampshire's Department of Public Health.
The Oncology Center works diligently to make the time that our patients and families spend with us as pleasant and comfortable as possible. For more information about the Infusion Suite or other services available at The Oncology Center, call 603-880-3408.
